General BJD Knowledge
What is a BJD?
BJD stands for Ball Jointed Doll. These are articulated customisable figures made primarily from resin and strung with elastic. Though they are called dolls, BJD are delicate and made for adult collectors. Often the proportions are realistic and there are many more details than would be found on a child’s doll.
What is a Faceup?
Faceup is a term used within the BJD collecting hobby to refer to the painted makeup and detailing on a doll’s face. This painting is usually sealed with some type of sealant such as Mr. Super Clear, so it can be removed with solvents and redone. Faceups should be protected when transporting the doll, as they are prone to scratches which will remove the color underneath.
What is Yellowing?
Resin has a tendency to react with UV light over time, so dolls should be kept out of direct sunlight. Even so, often the resin will discolor slightly with age. This depends on the composition of the resin as well as the dyes involved. Some dyes will mellow faster than others.
Care and Stringing
How do I string my BJD?
Refer to the stringing guide sent with your doll, or the online version here. 4mm round elastic is recommended.
How do I clean my BJD?
As these dolls are made with resin, care should be taken when clothing or wigs with strong dyes are worn. Prewash clothing and use protective silicone wig caps when possible as permanent staining can occur. If scuffs or dirt (or even stains which haven’t soaked into the resin) occur, try using a damp Magic Eraser and wiping the area.
How should I store/display my BJD?
These dolls are best displayed and stored in an area out of direct sunlight. Display them sitting, or standing with a doll stand. Do not leave them standing unattended.
Purchase and Shipping
Do you accept cancellations?
No. Unfortunately, as these dolls are considered custom and made to order, I cannot accept cancellations on custom or preorder items or issue refunds. Please consider carefully before making a purchase.
Will you underdeclare or mark an item as a gift on the customs form?
No. Marking merchandise as a gift is illegal in my country. Not only that, underdeclaring would mean that insurance could not be claimed in the event of damage or loss.
What countries do you NOT ship to?
Currently Draugar Dolls is unable to ship to certain countries due to conflict or lack of service. Orders from any countries that USPS does not ship to will need to be reviewed on a case by case basis. In addition, current EU regulations will make shipping more difficult. Please let me know if you are looking to buy from an EU country so that arrangements can be made for the safe delivery of your doll.
What if my doll arrives damaged?
If this happens, take photographs immediately and contact me, as a postal insurance claim will need to be filed. Once the item leaves my hands, I no longer have any control over its handling and thus am not responsible for covering loss or damage – this is what the insurance is for.
What Methods of Payment do you take?
Payments are through Stripe which accepts most major credit cards.
Layaway?
Limited layaway slots will be available for the Hunter Girls Preorder beginning May 15, 2023.
How long until my doll ships?
Preorder dolls must be cast once the orders are made, so they can take many months to produce. The current estimate is 70 business days but it may take longer. I will update as I am able, especially if there are delays or changes to the estimated time.
In stock dolls ship within 5-7 business days.
How do I preorder?
When the preorder is open, there will be an order form linked on the order page to fill out. Please fill this form out completely and submit it. I will then look it over, check anything that needs checking and contact you to let you know if your application is approved.
After you are approved, I will e-mail you a link to a custom listing which will outline your order and allow you to pay with the cart option on my site. Tax will be calculated at checkout.
Once I have received the ordered dolls from the caster, I will contact you again to confirm your shipping address, then I will create another listing to cover the shipping.
If you have ordered a faceup, please note there will be extra time required for the head to be shipped to the artist and returned. Once I have received the painted head or heads, your order will be ready for the above shipping stage.
Are you Smoke Free And Pet Free?
Draugar Dolls headquarters are Smoke Free. There is currently a cat residing on the premises, and we use animal hair such as Alpaca and Mohair for wigs.
Danni’s Designer Dolls – the faceup artist – is a smoke free and pet friendly operation. Please keep this in mind if you have animal allergies – She does occasionally burn incense as well. .
